Does anybody have the answer to this riddle?

How do you make a game that is "family friendly" but appeals to adults more than kids?

Edit: No, I don't know the answer.

You make a cute/goofy game with comical pop-culture references from the recent past.

That's the best I can come up with.

OR:
Make the content/basis family friendly but make the game complex enough for adults to find it entertaining.

The first idea is pretty good but there would be copyright issues if one were to make a profit of the game.

I agree with the second one, complexity would definitely open up possibilities.

Thanks for responding.

yeah, something older that older people might know about but less known to kids. something with old music maybe?

Yeah, maybe themes that would appeal to the older generation, or perhaps elements of the game inspired by old TV shows.

I'd say make a roguelike, but Nethack probably attracts college kids more than anyone else. Probably a puzzle game (most notably Lemmings) or a Chex Quest-style FPS. Action games almost never get played by anyone except kids, I think; if there's too much of an emphasis on timing, speed, or whatever else in that general area, people with weak reaction times (read: everyone over 16) won't play.

So go with a classic style that adults will recognize and / or use something that requires a lot of thinking. Sounds good to me. Thanks for your help.
