Thanks for putting this together,Prisimisho!

Prismisho responds:

No problem!

A nice dungeon crawl. I like how you can regenerate by just waiting/taking a break. It would be nice if you had some kind of numeric display along with the health meters so you have a better sense of how much your HP stacks up to damage intake. Maybe a semi-transparent overlay on the health meter? Even so, great game!

playspal responds:

Thanks!
Maybe just add a text label on HP and MP bars?

Could use some work

This game comes off as rough around the edges but still mildly entertaining.

Art:
The high point of this production. It's Great in some places, but others could use polish. While the text on the menu screens was well done the shop menu in the game could have used some work. Perhaps you could add shadows and highlights to the buttons to give them the appearance of buttons. The boxes for item cost and money left could have stood to be smaller (if can switch the money earned to whole numbers to prevent it from stretching out to that infinitesimal decimal place). Even so, you did do a good job of sticking with that purple color scheme.

Program:
There are a few bugs here and there but otherwise the game is playable. Controlling the ball is a bit awkward. It's too hard if not impossible to keep it off the ground possibly because it is either too responsive or not responsive enough to the mouse. Sometimes the ball takes too long to come back down when certain upgrades are obtained (in fact, as I was waiting for it to come back down I wrote this part of the review). You don't want to make your audience wait. Perhaps you should have a ceiling or point at which the ball will go up any further if the y value gets to that point.

At the end the Tries Taken and Ball Clicks readouts are broken. At least the Gravity was well integrated and all menu options worked.

Audio:
The low point of the game. While the music is okay it gets tiresome after hearing it constantly. A mute button would have been nice or perhaps having the game play a variety of music. If you hit the replay button at the end of the game the music plays over itself. The replay button should at least have a function to stop the currently playing song before the new one plays (I think it goes something like "SoundMixer.stopAll();").

Overall
The game was visually decent and playable but has a few flaws that need to be worked out. Don't get discouraged, build up your skill and try again.

P.S.
The leader board is pointless in any game. Don't bother with it.

Gimmick responds:

Wow, you're like the most lenient around here, and the most detailed review!

The force you place on the ball is relative to the mouse's position and the ball, i.e if you press on the dead center, there's no net force applied, since it's 2D. If near the edges, there's a lot of force in the opposite direction.

I realize that the audio was quite annoying, yes. It sounded perfect when I was developing it...but now that I play it again, from an end user's point of view, yes, it is annoying indeed. And it's not SoundMixer.stopAll(). It's stopAllSounds() :P

Thanks for the review!

At least you have a good grasp of actionscript...

All this game consisted of was grinding. While that is what players mostly spend their time doing on Minecraft, it didn't have to be that tedious for your game. How about some change of scenery or mining other things like trees? The only reason I kept playing was because I was curious about what would happen when all ingredients of the cake were obtained (like the massive tool I am). The ending was good for a chuckle, but overall you've still got a way to go.

Little-Rena responds:

Could have done but too lazy

Great game, if you can look past the surface

Despite what the others say, I like the way you used the text in this. It was deep and almost poetic. Even if you do manage to get the audio to work you'll still have to work on the visuals though. Don't get discouraged though.

P.S.
If you'd like some help adding ambient music just send me a P.M. and I'll see what I can do.

NinjaThumb responds:

Thanks! I'm going though the tutorials so I will be making MUCH better games in the future.

Excellent work on the mechanics!

As one who is in the process of learning actionscript, I have a great appreciation for this. If you used those mechanics with some creative audio and visuals you'd have yourself a winner. Don't get discouraged, don't give up.

zzzspawn responds:

You sir.. Are very positive! :DD thank you so much.. ^__^
this is definitely something I will complete one day! :D

peace and love! :D

Well on your way.

While the visuals leave much to be desired, the game simple mechanics work well. Keep up the good work.

Misterd909 responds:

I go try keep up the good work.
Thanks!

You've got a long way to go.

I don't know much about programming, but it would seem that you have quite a ways to go before you can make a "successful career doing this".

Art:
So-so. While I like the colored text against the black background the game graphics have a way to go yet. What graphics you have are very basic with no shading and the "ninja" doesn't really look like much of a ninja but closer to an Asian woman with black hair. Also, "pro" reviewers usually whine about the use of gradients (ie, the red background). I would strongly recommend making an icon for this.

Audio:
None, some music would have been nice.

Animation:
Not much. "Pro" reviewers usually whine about tweens but this can't be avoided.

Game play:
Simple, and perhaps relaxing. The simplistic game play seems to work for a while but gets old. Also, the shuriken movement pattern seems to be more consistent with snowflakes in being slow and "drifty" (of course, realistic movement would make the game impossible).

Overall:
A good start. Continue to work on your art and programming skills.

thom-alchemist responds:

Thank you for your words, but i didn't use tweens.

Overall: Work on audio and visuals

Pros:
- Exciting Music
- Simple game play
- No Score (yeah!)
Cons:
- Colours were dull (not the type of thing you'd expect with that music)
- Shooting noise drowned out music
- Unoriginal enemies

tomdeaap responds:

Ah, a review straight from the "how do I write a good review with constructive critics ( or wathever" book. :) Thank you for your review.
